Diversity at Indiana State University Campus

My name is Ana Maira Charun, I am 20 years old, and I am currently an international student at Indiana State University. I was born and raised in Lima, Peru (South America), and I came to the United States two and a half years ago on a full scholarship to play volleyball and go to college. I've had the amazing opportunity to meet new people from different cultural backgrounds, make new friends, learn a new language, get work experience and learn new things from other cultures.
The International Affairs Office is the place on campus where all international students get the information and support they need to be successful in class, and follow the immigration laws of the United States. It organizes different activities and cultural events where students get the opportunity to learn about other students from different countries and their cultural backgrounds, make new friends and learn new things. These events and activities have given me the opportunity to meet other students from the Middle East, Japan, Korea, China, Mexico, Canada and other places around the world. I think it is amazing that so many international students have the opportunity to come to the United States to study and become successful.
It is always hard at the beginning because you are at a new place where you do not know anyone, and you speak a different language. It is hard when you do not have your parents or best friends from back home around you anymore, but it is a good experience. If you stay positive, and are open minded, you will make friends easily.
